1918

Woodrow Wilson proclaims his famous "Fouteen Points Speech".

January, 1919

The Paris Peace Conference: Wilson of the United States, Lloyd George of Britain, Clemenceau of France, and Orlando of Italy create the Treaty of Versailles, and established a peace settlement to the war.

1920

The creation of new states of Austria, Poland, Czecholslovakia, and Yougoslavia adopt Paliamentary systems while Romania and Bulgaira create new parlimanetalry constitutions.

1921

Germany makes its first war reparations payment to France in accordance with the Treaty of Versailles.

1922

Germany is faced with a rising inflation, lack of revenues to lower taxes, and domestic problems and declares that it is unable to pay.

1923

Mussolini and the Fascists come to power in Italy.

October, 1923

Adolf Hitlr, along with his fellow NAZI's attempted to seize power in Munich.

1924

Britain, France, Italy, and Germany established full diplomatic relations with Soviet Russia.

August, 1924

The Dawes Plan is introduced by an international commission, in which it reduces reparations and stablizes German payments on the basis of it s abilityto pay.

1926

Poland establishes an authoritarian regimae after a military dictatorship is created.

March, 1926

Germany joins the League of Nations.

1928

Kellog-Briand Pact was signed by sixtry-three nations which pledged to "renounce war as an instrument of national policy".

October, 1929

International financial crisis results after the collapse of the American stock market and panic leades American investors to pull their funds from Germany and other European markets which weakens their banks.

1931

Stalin gains control of Russia and begins a five-year plan to shift Russia industrially.

January 30, 1933

Hitler forms a new government and names himslf chancellor because the president of the Weimar Republic instructed him to do so -- at the same time he pulls Germany out of the League of Nations.

1935

In an attempt to violate the Treaty of Versailles, Hitler begins to rebuild the German army.

1938

Hitler constructed the Anschluss, which was the forced union of Germany and Austria, which once again violates the Treaty of Versailles.
